Easy Installation
To install VideoIsland, all you need is a website and a connection to the Internet. There is no database to install, no plugins, and no desktop software to worry about. Once you have your website and server setup correctly*, you are ready to install the product. VideoIsland is simply a folder of web pages. So to install it on your site, simply upload (or FTP) the VideoIsland folder to your web server. That's it! You are now ready to start adding your movies. Simply open a web browser, surf to your VideoIsland folder in your site, and start uploading movies immediately!
Getting Started
It's easy to get started with VideoIsland! Once installed, just open VideoIsland in your web browser of choice. You will quickly see the interface and web design is very simple. Most of the navigational elements are clickable dropdown elements. And the layout is designed for maximizing the display of your movies. All features and functions inside VideoIsland are limited to a handful of icons and toolsets. We only provide whats needed to get the job done without overwhelming you with options you do not need. You want to get to your videos, right? With its simple media player listing and clickable toolsets, you will find VideoIsland is easier to use than any video software out there.
Uploading Videos
Using a simple upload web page inside VideoIsland, you can start uploading videos and movies directly to your website. The VideoManager section in VideoIsland allows you to view and manage, as well as upload, videos to your website. In the upload area, you will see ten upload fields, and a submit button. Simply choose videos you wish to upload by clicking "browse" buttons in the ten upload buttons found in the Uploads page, then clicking "upload" to upload these movies from your computer to the server. Please be patient while your videos upload to your site. Our new revolutionary Loading Bar is very helpful in letting you know how much time it will take to upload, extract, and save larger video items to the server. AVI, MPG, and WMV's are also used to create first-frame "donut" jpeg thumbnails of your movies, which makes locating specific movies in the Manager, eaiser. When uploading is complete, the upload page will refresh the page and show you a list of the videos you have uploaded today. You can click them to play them in this page, or go play them in the larger VideoManager listing.
Playing & Managing Videos
As mentioned above, the VideoManager Area allows you to manage your video library. Some of the things you can do with your videos include: Uploading, editing, deleting, naming, and playing. You can also grow your online library as large as you need, using this powerful module. A special paging system built into the viewer in this module will allow you to manage thousands of movies easily, and allow you to quickly surf through dozens of videos at a time. Different views and sorting features also make viewing your videos a fast and efficient (and fun) process. When playing a video, a simple button can be clicked in the listing, and it will automatically determine the appropriate media player and settings, and playback your video using a mini-media player. VideoIsland is specifically designed to detect and route your movie to the user's chosen media player. Because it uses popular players used in most browsers to play your movies, you can be sure a wide range of video types is supported and playable in VideoIsland. Overall, managing all your videos over the web using a web browser, and previewing them this way, is far more productive than managing them with desktop software. That's what makes VideoIsland so special!
Sharing Your Videos
Sharing videos online with VideoIsland is done using Video Web Pages. This is the cool new way to organize media online. Think of an video web page as a "movie album", or "video gallery". A new feature, called VideoWebPages, allows you to create these gallery pages and share then online with others. You can create an unlimited number of these pages in the VideoWebPage Module. Once you create a page, you assign movies stored in your library to these web pages. You can assign any videos you like to these pages and create albums, or web galleries this way. Each page can be assigned one of 3 different web templates or design layouts. Some of these also build special playlists, so when downloaded to a user, all videos play in order, one at a time, in the web page. This is very good for sending large pages of videos that need to play several movies in a specific order. You can also control how these pages are seen online by sending links to these pages by email to your users, or placing links from your website pages to these special video web pages. Anyone with a web browser and a connection to the World Wide Web can listen to your videos by simply clicking a link to one of your web pages!
Distributing these pages can be fun, too. As mentioned above, you can send links to these web pages. In the email, your users simply click the link to view the page. The best way to share your web pages is to simply link to them from your main website. You can easily copy the links to these pages and create that same link inside your main website. You can also copy the path to your videos in these pages and paste those into your main page as objects that play media stored inside VideoIsland. In this way, you can manage all your videos using VideoIsland, but share and distribute them using the Web and your current website.
Setting Up Users
The Security Section in VideoIsland is another very important module. This module allows you to decide which modules in your product are accessible by outside users, and if private, which users can view them using a login. You are always given a Global Administrator account so have ultimate control over who sees what. A special hidden login area appears once you make modules private, and allows you to require a user login to access them. Users assigned to the VideoManager and VideoWebPage Modules can even login and upload, manage, and share their own movies and web pages, without your assistance. In this way, you can turn your website into a Public Video Portal! You can then create logins for as many as 10 separate users, and allow the whole family, group of friends, or select set of customers the ability to upload and share their movies with you and the world through your website. VideoIsland makes online user video management easy!
Modules & Skins
All functionality and design in VideoIsland is controlled by two special areas in VideoIsland: Modules and Skins. Modules provide different types of functionality and feature sets in the product. The look-and-feel of the product is completely controlled by CSS and cascading style sheet Skins. These skins allow you to choose different website designs for your pages and control how the overall interface looks to you and your users online. Combined, modules and skins give you complete control over VideoIsland and all its assets.
